21st CCLC PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Tallmadge Community Learning Center (Tallmadge CLC) is affiliated and sponsored by the West After School Center (WASC). The WASC is a community-based, non profit organization located at 620 Garfield Avenue and in operation since 1997.  The Tallmadge Community Learning Center is a school-based before and after school program for targeted students from Tallmadge Elementary School. Selection criteria for the 21st CCLC after school tutoring program is based on students' classroom performance in reading and math (25% from each grade level become a priority to serve). The Tallmadge CLC is funded by a 21st CCLC grant administered by the Ohio Department of Education for the federal government. Implementation of the 5-year grant began in July 2008. The program is fully funded for three years (based on successful implementation), 75% in year 4, and 50% in year 5. A sustainability plan must be established to carry on the program after year 5. The governance, programmatic, and fiscal management of the grant are the responsibility of the WASC in partnership with Tallmadge and Lancaster City Schools.
